Gas-pump dispute allegedly escalates, leads to arrest

Kennett Square Police say man pulled gun, pointed it at victim

KSPolice1-297x300An altercation at a gas pump led to multiple charges against a borough resident on Tuesday, March 25, Kennett Square Police said.

Robert J. Chandler, 38, allegedly got into a verbal argument about 9:25 a.m. with a man because he was smoking near the gas pumps of the Landhope Market in the 500 block of South Union Street, police said. The dispute escalated and Chandler grabbed a handgun from his vehicle and pointed it at the victim, police said.

Chandler left the scene when the victim said he was calling 9-1-1, police said, adding that Chandler was arrested a short time later in Kennett Township with assistance of the Kennett Township Police.

Chandler, who faces charges that include recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, simple assault, and carrying a firearm without a license, was arraigned and released on $25,000 unsecured bail, police said. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 1, court records said.
