Letter: Offended by attacks on Seavey

To The Editor:

Letters1I am terribly offended by Mike Mooney’s letter (April 29) to the editor regarding the record of Matthew Seavey during his five years as District Justice. Whatever his sources may be, neither he nor they have a clue about the job Seavey has done or they would be supporting him instead of implying he is corrupt. The fact is, he has operated his office with integrity and honor. Above and beyond his normal duties as judge, Seavey spends a lot of his personal time helping the youth in our community.  He visits the schools every week, volunteers at community centers, and visits parents of young offenders at their houses to check up on them. Matthew Seavey has made our community a better place to live.

As a long-time Democratic committee person, it isn’t easy for me to support a Republican for any office. However, after personally consulting several Democratic District Justices around the county, I was told that Seavey is a “model for what a DJ should be”, “he is the only DJ in the county who consistently arrives on time and opens his own office door every morning”, and “his teen truancy campaign has been great for the community”.  That is why I am supporting his re-election.

Mooney and some of the other right wing-nut Republicans in this area appear to be engaging in a power play to control their Party, as well as this part of Chester County, from their bully pulpit. It’s time we all took a stand for common sense and what is best for our community instead of letting  this nasty, vocal minority run things for their own benefit. Please support Matthew Seavey for re-election in Magisterial District 15-4-4.

Well I had to chuckle at the examples you cited of why he is a “model DJ”, “arrives on time and opens his own office door every morning”. Setting the bar a little low aren’t we? But then again, you stooped low when you attempted to smear Mike Mooney. As you say “It’s time we all took a stand for common sense” Well common sense tells me a Judge should have a law degree and experience from the other side of the bench. Nicole Morley is the only attorney running. Over her 19 years of experience, she has practiced law, prosecuted criminals and represented local homeowners seeking fair assessments in their property taxes. I think the common sense decision for voters is to pick the most qualified candidate, which is clearly Nicole Morley.

Nicole is well qualified and people support her for that reason.

Why does it always end up with name calling?
