Coatesville police make arrest in Ash Park shooting

Lancaster man faces attempted homicide charges from July 8 incident

CPDCOATESVILLE — City police said Monday afternoon they had made an arrest in the July 8 shooting of a city man in Ash Park.

On Saturday, city police issued an arrest warrant for Aaron Bynum-Hamilton, 22, of Lancaster, who police said was wanted for his involvement in the non-fatal shooting of a 24-year-old city man — whom police did not identify under department policy — at about 7:50 p.m. on the evening of July 8, on the basketball courts of Ash Park.

On Sunday, police said they saw Bynum-Hamilton walking on South 4th Avenue and when they attempted to take him into custody, he fled.

Police said they were able to take him into custody just a few blocks away after a footchase. Police said upon arrest he was found to be in possession of a knotted plastic bag that contained multiple off white rock like substance, which was suspected to be crack cocaine.

Bynum-Hamilton was charged with criminal attempt homicide and related charges as well as flight to avoid apprehension, escape, recklessly endangering another person, and the Controlled substance, Drug, Device and Cosmetic Act. He was transported to Chester County Prison after failing to post $350,000 cash bail.
