HARRISBURG – Rep. Harry Lewis Jr. (R-74) has been appointed by the Speaker of the House to serve as secretary of the House Urban Affairs Committee.
The House Urban Affairs Committees is one of four House standing committees that Lewis is serving on during this 2015-16 legislative session.
“As a long-time resident of the Coatesville area, I have a strong background in matters relating to urban affairs,” Lewis said in a statement. “That experience will serve me well as I work with the committee to resolve issues throughout the Commonwealth and in my district that I have seen during my life. I am ready to focus on legislation that will rebuild our troubled cities from the ground up by enticing businesses and the good-paying jobs they bring.”
As secretary, Lewis will sign off on the minutes of all committee meetings, attendance forms and roll call forms for voting meetings.
“It’s a privilege to now be an officer of the Urban Affairs Committee, and I look forward to serving in this new role and working more closely with Rep. Scott Petri (R-Bucks), who chairs this important committee,” Lewis said.
The Urban Affairs Committee primarily deals with issues specific to cities. These issues are expansive and often include aspects of cultural, economic and sociological matters with which other House committees work, such a cultural districts, neighborhood improvement zones, crime, school violence and taxation.
In addition to serving on the House Urban Affairs Committee, Lewis also serves on the House Children and Youth, Education and Health committees.
