Downingtown man critical after shooting

DowningtownPD-2DOWNINGTOWN — Police are investigating a shooting Monday night that left a borough man in critical condition.

According to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, a 21-year-old man, who was not identified, was shot twice in the abdomen in what was described as a “drug-related” shooting, although authorities offered few other details, of the incident which took place on Farmhouse Road, around 11 p.m. The victim was airlifted to a local hospital where he was said to be in critical condition.

Both borough and county authorities are investigating the incident. Borough Police Chief James McGowan moved to reassure residents that this event is far from the norm and that police are actively working to identify the shooter.

“I want to reassure the community that the Downingtown Police and the Chester County Detectives are working together around the clock to solve this crime,” McGowan said in a statement released Tuesday. “Downingtown is a safe community and this type of gun violence is out of the ordinary.”

While the investigation is ongoing, authorities are asking the public to contact them with any information they may have about the incident.

“Chester County Detectives and Downingtown Police are following up on substantial investigative leads regarding the individuals involved,” Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said. “Anyone with information should contact Chester County Detectives at 610-344-6866.”
