Three arrested in March Regency shooting

PoliceBlotterCOATESVILLE — City police said Friday they have arrested three city men in relation to a shooting in March on Regency Drive that wounded a 14–year-old boy.

Zaequon Tanel Closson, age 24 of Coatesville: Maurice Lamar Scott, age 22 of Coatesville; and Rodney Duane Gaffney, age 23 of Coatesville were all charged with Criminal Attempted Homicide, Persons Not to Possess Firearms, Aggravated Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Possessing Instruments of Crime and Simple Assault for their alleged involvement in the shootout that occurred in Regency Park Apartments on the afternoon of March 18, police said.

The boy was wounded when he went to the window of his second-floor residence after hearing gunshots. He was struck in the abdomen by a stray bullet. Police said that the victim made a full recovery from his wound.

City Police Chief John Laufer said he was pleased to have this case cleared as a result of the hard work of Coatesville Police Detective and Patrol Division, according to a statement issued by the department.

He noted that “random acts of gun violence surrounding the drug trade and the criminal activity associated with it cannot and will not be tolerated by the citizens of the City of Coatesville nor the Police Department.  The culmination of this investigation resulting in the arrest of the three career criminals involved was a direct result of cooperation between the community and its police department as well as the cooperation and prosecutorial assistance of the Chester County District Attorney’s Office.”
