Police: Downingtown man busted for 3rd DUI in 3 months

WEST WHITELAND — The Township Police Department charged Dharmesh Vaswani with his third DUI arrest in the past three months in the township, police said Thursday.

Vaswani is a 42-year old male from the 700 block of Southwind Lane in Downingtown.

On May 31, 2014, Vaswani was arrested after officers made contact with him at a DUI checkpoint in the 300 block of N. Pottstown Pike. Vaswani was charged with DUI and released to a relative.

On July 29, 2014, officers were dispatched to a report of a subject sleeping in a car in a parking lot at the Wawa store at 10 W. Boot Road. Officers found Vaswani behind the wheel of a vehicle that was parked across three parking spaces. Vaswani was subsequently arrested for DUI and released to a relative.

On August 8, 2014, officers were dispatched to an erratic driver complaint at the intersection of Route 100 and the Route 30 Bypass. While checking the area, officers observed a three vehicle crash. Officers discovered that Vaswani was operating a vehicle that struck a traffic signal control box and two other vehicles. Vaswani was transported to Chester County Hospital for his injuries. He was subsequently charged with DUI for his involvement in the crash.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Vaswani after the most recent incident. He turned himself in at the West Whiteland Township Police Department on August 15, 2014. He was arraigned by Judge Grover Koon in Coatesville. Vaswani was released after posting 10% of his $5,000 bail.
