DEVON — The Easttown Township Democratic Committee (ETDC) announced changes to its leadership team this week, following a 2014 re-organizing meeting, with Chester County attorney John Winicov elected as the group’s new chair.
Winicov practices law in West Chester, representing clients in personal injury and criminal matters in the greater Philadelphia region. Winicov was elected to lead the Easttown Democrats to greater success supporting candidates at the local, state and national levels through energized campaigning and 21st-century strategy, organization, and outreach.
“I look forward to working with Chester County Democratic Committee Chair Brian McGinnis and CCDC Vice Chair Robin Greene-Toler, as well as the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, to lead the Easttown Democrats to victory,” Winicov said. “State Rep candidate Anne Crowley is running a particularly strong ground operation. As past Tredyffrin-Easttown school board member, she is well-positioned to win this fall and well-qualified to represent us in Harrisburg.”
Outgoing ETDC chair Craig Lewis was elected Vice Chair, and will work closely with Winicov to ensure a smooth transition. Lewis works as marketing director of Berwyn Systems. Lewis said “Pennsylvania badly needs the experience and dedication of Anne Crowley and gubernatorial candidate Tom Wolf to correct the mistakes of Governor Corbett. The environment, the economy, and our public education system can’t survive another Corbett administration.”
Elected Treasurer was Jim Crowley (Retired US Air Force), who in his professional life works as Executive Director of a Philadelphia publisher and professional association for mathematicians. Before being elected Democratic committeeperson, he served as Judge of Elections for his precinct. Joan Bergquist was re-elected secretary. Bergquist has lived in Easttown for 40 years; she makes her home with her husband, James and their adult son, John.
The Easttown Democrats, long a minority party in the Main Line towns of Berwyn, Devon, and Paoli, are poised for a sea change among voters, they say. Rising Democratic registration, combined with ever younger residents, an extraordinarily unsuccessful and unpopular governor, and the strongest field of down-ticket Democratic candidates in a generation, promise a shake-up this November.
Committee members say that Democrats are energized and working for the Crowley campaign, the Wolf campaign, Congressional candidate Manan Trivedi, and State Senate candidate Tom Kane. Enthusiastic Democratic voter turnout at this spring’s primary predict a Democratic sweep this November, and the Easttown Democrats say they are working hard to make that promise a reality.
