OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERACOATESVILLE – The Coatesville Area Public Library will be hosting a kids story time, a drum circle, and signups to various library programs at its open house from 10-4 this Saturday.

In addition to the story time and drum circle, Arts Holding Hands and Hearts will also be running arts and crafts activities, bookmark creation, and poetry readings while the YMCA, Coatesville Robotics Club, and library chess club will also hold activities of their own.

The library will also announce upcoming initiatives and allow residents to sign up for them.

Career Link will be hosting its services in the library this summer, assisting people in the job hunt from 12-4 on Thursdays. The library has also partnered with Citadel Bank to host a financial literacy lab, which will teach attendees basic finance skills such as balancing a checkbook and maintaining a savings account.

“We want to provide resources for them [Coatesville residents] to empower themselves,” said Library Director Lut P. Nero.

Sponsored by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, online broadband technology training will also be offered to teach people about social media, accounting, project management, and a variety of other technology-based topics.

Library Assistant Director Jonquil Patterson said that he would like to see residents use these classes to advance their professional development, particularly people who may be looking into attending one of the city’s universities.

“It’s giving them the opportunity to do college level type work,” he said.

Library staff will also be encouraging people to sign up for library cards. Patterson said that library cards give holders access to online databases and resources like the Power Library, which allows users to chat with a librarian, find books and movies, and search online job resources.

The library will also be unveiling new technology, including new computers and iPads, as well as the new director, Lut P. Nero, who will be holding a meet and greet 12-1.
