New name for old favorite in summer entertainment

Parkesburg Fair to be produced by Houghton Enterprises, sponsored by KVFD

Screen Shot 2014-03-05 at 4.04.04 PMThe Parkesburg Fire Company Fair, a staple of community entertainment since 1979, will live on with a new name, the Parkesburg Fair sponsored by the Keystone Valley Fire Department (KVFD), the department’s board of directors announced this week.

Pending approval by the Borough of Parkesburg, the fair, managed and produced by Houghton Enterprises of Cochranville, will be held June 30 to July 5 at Minch Park, a fire department news release said.

“We are excited to still bring the fair to the community but be able to address our staffing concerns with this new relationship,” said Ray Campbell, chairman of the KVFD board. “The new relationship turns over more of the fair staffing to Houghton and limits the need of our volunteers to staff the event as it did in years past, all while still guaranteeing the KVFD a profitable venture.”

The new structure enables KVFD to meet the increasing demand on members to provide EMS and fire services with a corresponding need to increase training time, the release said. In the process, the fair will continue to delight visitors with games, food, rides, craft vendors, and special entertainment.

Thank God ! I can’t imagine Parkesburg without a fair in the Summer! It’s part of the Burg’s history as far as I’m concerned. I’m glad to hear this won’t change! Thank you KVFD!!
