wwpd patchOn Tuesday, Feb. 18,  a West Whiteland Township resident filed a report with the West Whiteland Township Police Department that he was a victim of identity theft, police said.

The resident indicated that he had been contacted by a bank about a loan application, which he had not sought, West Whiteland police said. On Wednesday, Feb., 19,  a man walked into the Santander Bank in West Chester and attempted to complete a $17,500 loan in the victim’s name, police said. The West Chester Borough Police Department responded and detained the suspect, who was identified as Michael Jaje, 39, of  Philadelphia, West Whiteland police said.

An investigation determined that Jaje had used a counterfeit identification card and the victim’s personal information in an attempt to obtain the loan, West Whiteland police said, explaining that they filed the charges because the victim resided in West Whiteland. Jaje was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Scott Massey, who set bail at  $25,000 cash, police said, adding that Jaje was remanded to Chester County Prison after failing to post it, police said.
