Freezing rain advisory posted for Wednesday morning

National Weather Service urging commuters to be cautious

Screen Shot 2014-02-18 at 3.12.50 PMBy now, some of you are probably wondering what’s next: a plague of locusts? No, freezing rain, says the National Weather Service, which has posted an advisory in the region for Wednesday morning, Feb. 19.

The advisory – in effect from 7 to 10 a.m. Wednesday – predicts ice accumulations of less than five-hundredths of an inch. The precipitation is forecast during the morning commute when an overlap period of surface temperatures at or below 32 degrees causes the rain to freeze on contact. The chances for freezing rain will likely decrease as the morning progresses, the weather service says.

Motorists are advised to be cautious as any untreated roadways or roadways in which the salt has run off are expected to be slippery and hazardous. Temperatures during the early morning are forecast around 30 degrees and should rise into the lower 40s by Wednesday afternoon.
