Volunteers from PECO and Natural Lands Trust pruned trees and shrubs, painted visitor restrooms, and placed protective tubes around trees at the Church Farm Lane trailhead of the Chester Valley Trail on Sept. 25, a trust news release said.

The project was one of five that PECO and Natural Lands Trust pursued around the greater Philadelphia area to celebrate National Public Lands Day, a nationwide initiative to improve public parks and open spaces.

PECO is the lead sponsor of Natural Lands Trust’s Force of Nature program, which provides training and long-term volunteer opportunities for people with a passion for the outdoors. PECO and Natural Lands Trust also partner on PECO Green Region, the company’s municipal open space and environmental grant program. Since its inception in 2004, PECO has awarded more than $1.1 million in grants to local communities to help plan, protect, and improve open land, the release said.
