CALN — As folks around the area prepare for the holiday season, the Girl Scout Troops and faculty from Caln Elementary School continued their traditions of supplying Thanksgiving dinners for some local families on Monday.

In the spirit of giving, all items were donated in order to ensure that Caln families felt supported by the Caln Community of educators. The Girl Scout Troop from Caln Elementary is led by Carol Tritt, one of the building substitutes. Caln’s two guidance counselors, BethAnn Hackmeister and Marcy Knecht, organized the receipt and packaging of items in order to present to the families.

“We are very grateful for the support from our local Girl Scout Troop and Caln faculty for being so generous in their contributions to our Thanksgiving program,” Hackmeister and Knecht said in a statement.

They note that this act of giving demonstrates the compassion that the staff has for students and their families. There were over 386 items donated by staff and Girl Scouts, which was equitably distributed amongst the families. Families who received the dinners came to the school to pick them up on the last student day before the Thanksgiving holiday break.

During pick up of their donated items, two parents stated, “We appreciate the donation! We can’t wait to cook!” Staff members were eager to donate and appreciate the opportunity to assist their students.

“Each year we are able to assist families in need and provide them with a fabulous thanksgiving dinner; it’s a blessing to be a part of such a wonderful community,”Hackmeister and Knecht shared.
