COATESVILLE – A city man has been charged with first degree murder in grisly killing of Alex Hartzell in late August, Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said Monday.

Lenn “Butter” Tucker, who lists both Philadelphia and Coatesville addresses, faces charges of first degree murder, possessing an instrument of crime, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and related charges in the killing of Hartzell, of Pottstown. He was taken into custody Friday and remanded to Chester County Prison.

Hartzell’s bullet-riddled body was discovered on the morning of Aug. 26 behind a home of Diamond Alley — authorities said that the victim was shot 11 times. City police immediately began the hunt for his killer, gathering video recordings from multiple sources, reconstructing the event based on crime scene forensics and the recordings, and many witness interviews.

This was good work by the Coatesville  Police Department and Chester County Detectives,” Hogan said in a statement.”They combined expert use of technology with old-fashioned police work of interviewing everybody with any connection to the area. The victims family expressed relief that an arrest had been made and gratitude for the hard work of law enforcement.”

Police are asking anyone with additional information about the case to contact Chester County Detective Jim Ciliberto at 610-344-6866 or Coatesville Detective Kevin Campbell at  610-384- 2300.
