United Way ‘spreads’ the word – PB&J donations needed for Chesco Food Bank

PBJWEST CHESTER – United Way of Chester County isn’t ‘sticking to’ its usual fancy catered luncheon this summer to close the campaign season and thank donors. Instead, they are ‘spreading’ the word and their appreciation with a major peanut butter and jelly community food drive through June 12th, to benefit the Chester County Food Bank. The shared mission between the two non-profits expands their reach during the summer months, when many local food banks find their pantry shelf supplies low.

United Way of Chester County announced the drive with peanut butter and jelly being the food of choice as a quick and easy grab and go lunch option with mass appeal, and packed with protein, vitamins and minerals. Other nut butter donations are also welcome such as soy nut butter, almond butter, and sunflower butter. “We’re excited to help spread the word about how the community can get involved in not only supporting local food drives but in other areas as volunteers and educators in helping to break the cycle of poverty and hunger,” added United Way of Chester County CEO, Claudia Hellebush.

The community is invited to pull together and coordinate a team drive at local churches, schools, the workplace or other organizations (scouts, rotary, sports team, health club, etc.), or simply gather friends, family or neighbors. Drop off your collected donations of peanut butter, nut spreads, and jelly on Friday June 12th, between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm, at the Chester County Food Bank, 650 Pennsylvania Drive in the Eagleview Corporate Center.

Stick around for the official weigh-in of your donated total poundage and learn who will be crowned the food drive PB&J champion, followed by a tour of the food bank. The tour includes the debut of the new Fresh2You food truck-vehicle, ready to deliver fresh produce and food staples to underserved area residents.

A complimentary lunch will be served with a variety of peanut butter and jelly “gourmet” sandwiches by United Way of Chester County staff.
