Golf outing to benefit ‘Soccer for Success’

Fund-raiser run by J.T. Dorsey, who gets kick out of keeping Coatesville ties

Screen Shot 2014-04-29 at 11.35.57 AMJ.T. Dorsey, a former high school and professional soccer standout who initially honed his skills at Regency Park Apartments, continues to expand his “Soccer for Success” initiative, which started in Coatesville nearly two years ago.

As established by the U.S. Soccer Foundation, the grant-funded program uses soccer as a tool to combat childhood obesity, promote healthy lifestyles for children in under-served urban communities, and provide them with free after-school programming throughout the academic year. Dorsey, who retired from professional soccer in 2006 as a Harrisburg City Islander, became involved in the youth program in the spring of 2012 and is now serving hundreds of children at multiple regional sites, including Coatesville.

To fund the programs, which operate from Philadelphia to Harrisburg, the J.T. Dorsey Foundation is holding its annual golf outing on May 18 at the Valley Green Golf Course in Etters. The event will run from 12:30 to 6 p.m. The cost is $250 for a foursome or $70 for an individual.
