CALN — Township police saved the life of township woman who suffered an apparent heroin overdose by administering the lifesaving heroin antidote Naloxone, Sunday.
Following a 911 call, township police were dispatched to a home after a report of an unconscious, unresponsive 31 year old female. Officer Jason Culbertson was the first responder to arrive at the scene, and determined that the victim, who was not identified by police, had injected heroin, according to township police. Culbertson administered an intranasal dose of Narcan, and the victim regained consciousness.
She was transported to the hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery. Medical staff concluded that the female would not have survived had the antidote not been administered.
The rescue came just weeks after the township Police Department trained and equipped its officers with Narcan. The process was made possible by the passage of Act 139 of 2014, allowing first responders (law enforcement, fire fighters, EMS) to administer Naloxone to individuals experiencing an opioid overdose.
The incident remains under investigation by the Caln Township Police Department Criminal Investigation Division.
