KENNETT – The Kennett High School (KHS) After Prom Committee is working to raise $25,000 for its annual After Prom Party.   The ‘Party of the Year’ will be held 11 PM Friday, April 24, thru 5 AM Saturday, April 25, 2015 at KHS; and is a free venue for hundreds of students to continue celebrating after the prom is over. Games, favorite foods (students are polled for top choices), music, elaborate decorations and activities are just a few examples of the fun in store for attendees.

Nationally 5,000 teenagers are injured on a typical prom night, including 48 fatalities; and the committee wants to help ensure those grim statistics does not hit home here in Chester County. Organizers underscore that the event is fun, cheaper than throwing a private party, and offers a wide array of options to help keep students entertained and safe on a night that is often associated with risky behaviors.

The committee would also like to share that to enjoy the After Party students do not have to attend the prom; and, it is also open to underclassman who are a guest of a KHS Junior or Senior.  The event is not a “lock-in” however, students must be signed-out by a parent or guardian; and are not permitted to drive themselves home.

Elizabeth Stinson, After Prom Committee Co-Chair says, “The committee strives to make the evening an all-inclusive event and by doing so, it remains a place that our kids want to spend time.  For example, upperclassmen can simply come to the party with a friend, their prom date or by themselves…we just want the kids here, staying safe and having a great time.”

Stinson notes that the Committee is working hard to break through any obstacles that may prevent a student from attending including exploring busing for those students who may not have access to transportation.
