At all hours of the day and night, this duo has teamed up to serve the community as fire police, logging a combined 89 years of directing traffic at both emergency and non-emergency events in southern Chester County.

On Sunday, Avondale Fire Police Capt. Robert “Bob” Massey and his wife, Louise Massey, were recognized as the Fire Police Officers of the Year for 2012 by the Chester County Fire Police Association at its annual awards picnic.  They are the first husband and wife team to receive this honor, said a news release from the county’s Department of Emergency Services.

Life members of the Avondale and West Grove Fire Companies, the two are also life members of the Chester County Fire Police Association, where Bob Massey serves on the board and is the fire commissioner. The couple was also recognized by State Sen. John Rafferty and State Reps. Chris Ross and John Lawrence.
