Equine parade star recovering from surgery
The famous movie horse Silver is recovering from surgery at New Bolton Center — and is expected to be released next week. The illness forced him to miss the West Chester and Coatesville Christmas parades this past week.
EAST MARLBOROUGH — The Lone Ranger’s horse, Silver, is in the New Bolton Equine Center, recovering from surgery that kept him out of the area’s top holiday parades in Coatesville and West Chester last week.
The film star was admitted on Nov. 5 for an operation of cancer on his left eyelids. Unfortunately, the horse’s owner said Monday, after the operation complications developed and he is still there recovering.
The surgeons and staff at the facility were able to give him the medical attention he needed and now have a positive prognosis for what could have been a life-threatening illness.
New Bolton officials say they are hopefully Silver will be able to leave the facility on Dec. 11, but could face eyelid reconstruction surgery in 30 to 60 days.
The Lone Ranger is expected to come in person to pick up Silver upon his release.
The legendary duo were scheduled to appear in the West Chester Parade on Dec. 5 and in the Coatesville Christmas Parade on Dec. 6., but were forced to cancel, due to the illness.
Both are expected to appear in the 2015 parades.
