DOWNINGTOWN — Brandywine Consignment Shop is affectionately known as “The Little Yellow House.” The idea to paint the building yellow was that of Nancy Oliver who became manager in 2004. In her ten years of managing the shop she has made a number of innovations Prior to her arrival all merchandise tags had to be written by hand, a labor-intensive job.
With the help of her husband, Oliver introduced computers and software to make this task more efficient and less time consuming. She has worked diligently to make the shop as attractive as possible. From the wide variety of items consigned, Nancy is able to create lovely themes throughout the store. Her eye for design is noticed and appreciated by customers who often comment on how beautiful the shop looks. By researching and keeping up with the latest fashion and design trends, Oliver has continually broadened her knowledge of jewelry, clothing, furniture and vintage items. Consignors and customers respect this and often ask for her advice or opinion.
Perhaps Oliver’s greatest success has been the increase in sales. In the past ten years sales and donations to the Brandywine Health Foundation have more than doubled. These statistics are indicative of her dedication, professionalism and leadership abilities.
Oliver said she greatly appreciates the involvement of the scores of women who generously volunteer their time, and she does her best to create a pleasant working environment for them. Judging by the many smiling faces seen throughout the shop, success in this area can be added to her long list of accomplishments.
