It was a scary night for Kennett — as a terrifyingly good Great Valley team dominated the Halloween matchup, 55-21, Friday night.

MALVERN – Finishing what has been a rough 2014 season, the Kennett High School football team struggled mightily against the powerhouse Great Valley, 55-21, in a Ches Mont American matchup, Friday night.

Truly, it was a tale of two teams — The 9-1 Pats, headed to a top seed in the District AAA playoffs, while the Blue Demons (1-9)  lick their wounds after dropping their final game of the season, their ninth in a row, and hope for better things in 2015.

“We are a young team, and we are going to make mistakes.” Kennett head coach Scott Green said. “Great Valley is more experienced than us. With the conference being the best that it has ever been, we are going to play really good teams, and our youth is going to be exposed.”

Unfortunately for Kennett, this game was never much of a contest.  Kennett was down early, trailing 14-0 five minutes into the first quarter. Great Valley scored on its first four possessions of the game with 14 points coming off of two Kennett fumbles to make the score 48-0 at halftime.

The Demons were without starting running back Myles Robinson, as he left the game with an injured knee mid way through the first quarter and did not return.

Kennett defense seemed to find their footing in the second half, letting up no points.

Senior Thomas Wessels led the defense, racking up 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble, which led to a Demon touchdown.

The Patriots’ only points in the second half came off of a Dunlevy interception. Great Valley Junior Zach Tillet took the ball 60 yards to the house to complete the pick six.

Kennett was not going down without a fight, scoring three times in the fourth quarter. Their first score came off of a Great Valley fumble in the end zone, recovered by Senior Michael Uhle for the touchdown.

After a muffed kickoff return, Kennett recovered the fumble at the Patriot 40 yard line, marching their way down the field for a four yard touchdown run by Junior running back Frankie Perigo.

The Blue Demon’s final score came with 1:30 left in the fourth quarter, a 41 yard touchdown run by Senior tight end Jacob Goudy.

Kennett Demons ended their season with a 1-9 record, with all eyes on the future.

“Like I said, we are young. We will find our footing,” Green said.
