Floats sought for Downingtown Halloween parade on Oct. 25

HalloweenDOWNINGTOWN — Floats and groups wishing to participate in the annual Downingtown Parade should pre-register. The parade is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25.

“We are looking for another fantastic parade with bands, marching groups and great costumes,” said Dianne Plaugher, event organizer.  The parade is a Downingtown Main Street Association production.

To register, go to http://www.dtownchristmas.com/Halloween.html. Individuals, pairs and small costumed groups do not have to register but floats, dancers and twirling groups or a large costumed group should pre-register. The registration forms are due by Saturday, October 18, 2014. There is no charge to participate in the parade.

The parade route will be along Pennsylvania Avenue between Beaver Creek Elementary School at 601 W. Pennsylvania Avenue heading east to the Kerr Park Gazebo. Participants in the parade must be at the staging area by 2:30 p.m.  Costumed participants will stage at Beaver Creek Elementary School and floats will stage at Grace Church at the corner of Lloyd and Pennsylvania Avenues.  All participants will need a number in order to be judged.

The annual 5K Dash of the Living Dead race will take place on Saturday, October 25 at 2:00 p.m. before Downingtown’s Halloween Parade. To register for the race, go to:  https://www.runtheday.com/registration/race_info/27257. The cost of the race is $35 if pre-registered and $40 if registration takes place the day of the race. Entrants will receive a T-shirt and entrance to the Un-Dead After Party. The party will include food and refreshments from Victory Brewing Company, one of the sponsors of the event. The School of Rock will perform at the party.

“This is a great afternoon of family fun,” said Downingtown Main Street Association President Adrian Martinez.

The 5K course will be the same as last year, Pennsylvania Avenue to Aston Avenue and back through Kerr Park before continuing on the path to Johnsontown and then pack to the park to the finish, according to Autumn Katzenmoyer, event organizer and DMSA member.

“The race is zombie themed and we will have a face painter available for folks,” Katzenmoyer said. “There will also be prizes for men and women runners winning in different age group brackets and best man and woman zombie.”

Proceeds of the race will benefit Downingtown Main Street Association.
