In an effort to facilitate the flood recovery process, the Chester County Department of Emergency Services (DES) will be distributing flood clean-up kits on Wednesday, May 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. in some of the hardest-hit areas.

The kits will be passed out on a first-come, first-serve basis since availability is limited. Downingtown Borough Hall, 4 W. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, will have 50 kits to distribute; Modena Borough Hall, 5 Woodland Ave., Modena, will have 100; and Avondale Fire Company, 23 Firehouse Way, Avondale, will also have 100.

The clean-up kits include a five-gallon bucket, gloves, cleaning solutions, scrub brush, trash bags, and dust masks, which are needed to clean up from the effects of flood waters.

A flood resource guide, prepared by DES and the Chester County Health Department, contains information on a variety of topics, such as flooded private water supplies, sewage overflow recommendations, well disinfectant procedure, and mold remediation. Some of the information also appears in Spanish. The guide can be accessed at http://chesco.org/DocumentCenter/View/17970.
