Residents urged to ‘Race Against Violence’

19th annual event supports Crime Victims’ Center of Chester County

Ready, Set , GoAnother sure sign of spring: Preregistration is underway for the Crime Victims’ Center of Chester County, Inc.’s 19th Annual Chester County Race Against Violence, to be held Saturday, April 26.

The race has become a popular way to support the agency’s many direct services, such as counseling and court accompaniment, as well as its prevention/education programs. Registration and check-in will be held from 7:30 until 8:45 a.m. at the Chester County Justice Center, 201 W. Market St., West Chester, on the day of the race. Starting times for the event are 9 a.m. for the 5K Run/Walk and 9:05 a.m. for the 1-Mile Walk.

On the day of the race, the cost to participate is $25 for either the race or the walk.  All participants receive a t-shirt. The family maximum is $60, which includes up to five t-shirts. Preregistration by April 25 is $20 and can be done via mail or, for a small fee, online at www.runccrs.com.

Trophies will be awarded to the top male and female runners, and awards will be given to the winners of each age group. The run divisions are age 12 and under, 13 to19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 and over. The Crime Victims’ Center of Chester County, Inc. is a private, community-based, non-profit agency that provides a broad range of supportive services – including hotline response; counseling and advocacy; and accompaniment to medical, police, and legal procedures – to victims of crime and their families in Chester County.  The agency also provides prevention/ education programs to schools, church and community groups, and businesses and organizations in the county. The center has been operating in West Chester since 1973 and is recognized statewide for its victim advocacy work. CVC’s two 24-hour crisis hotlines are available to victims of all types of crime.
