The Brandywine Center
The Alliance for Health Equity will be seeking a new healthcare partner for its Coatesville facility, after learning that ChesPenn Health Services will not continue services at the facility beyond June, 2025.
According to a statement issued Thursday, The Alliance for Health Equity (AHE) said it is committed to ensuring high-quality health services for the Greater Coatesville Community, and has released a three-year grant opportunity, totaling $1,050,000, for a service provider capable of expanding health services including existing health and dental services. ChesPenn Health Services is the current Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), which is located at the Brandywine Center (744 East Lincoln Highway, Coatesville, PA 19320).
ChesPenn recently informed AHE of their decision not to apply for the open RFP. We appreciate ChesPenn’s dedication and contributions to our community since 2007, which will conclude June 2025. A new provider will begin offering services July 1, with a transition beginning immediately following the selection of the new provider.
ChesPenn’s partnership with The Alliance for Health Equity has been both financial and programmatic. Throughout the last 17 years, AHE has provided ChesPenn with $7,728,250 in funding over 7 grant periods, supporting their mission to deliver essential health services. Additionally, ChesPenn CEO Susan McGovern-Harris has chaired AHE’s Integrated Health Delivery subgroup committee, playing a crucial role in developing recommendations for future health investments.
ChesPenn has been a cornerstone in providing health and dental services to the Coatesville community. This effort was supported annually with a $350,000 grant, mirroring the federal HRSA grant they receive at their other locations, which they did not qualify for in Coatesville. This annual grant, along with the lease provided by the Coatesville Health and Development Corporation, ensured that these vital services remained accessible to the community.
“Looking ahead, The Alliance for Health Equity and the Coatesville Health and Development Corporation remain committed to ensuring high-quality health services at the Brandywine Center,” says Kevin Ressler, AHE President and CEO. “The selection process will conclude early in January 2025, and we are excited about the future prospects for health services in Coatesville.”
The Brandywine Center project, launched by The Brandywine Health Foundation (now The Alliance for Health Equity), was a tax credit building project aimed at creating an integrated health building, with PNC Bank as the General Partner for the tax credit. The Brandywine Center also houses HDC Mid Atlantic’s 24 affordable senior housing units on the 2nd and 3rd floors, and, currently, ChesPenn Health Services on the 1st floor until June 30, 2025.
Since the 15-year tax credit ended in 2022, The Alliance for Health Equity has bought out PNC’s interest to become the sole owner, guaranteeing a long-term commitment to health services. In the last year, The Brandywine Center has welcomed the organizations to the fourth floor that currently serve as the core of the integrated health delivery strategy, including the Equity Health Center, Community Volunteers in Medicine and Legacy Treatment Service- Chester County’s Mobile Crisis Response Team. Our ever-expanding vision ensures that Coatesville continues to receive the highest quality services.
