Freedom Village at Brandywine recently hosted its third annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, a significant community event aimed at raising awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association. This year, the community raised over $3,700 for the cause.

Recognizing that many of its residents and staff are passionate about supporting the Alzheimer’s Association but may face transportation and mobility restrictions, making it difficult to travel to other locations hosting walks, Freedom Village decided three years ago to host its own walk. Since then, the event has become a beloved tradition that is eagerly anticipated by the community each year.

This year, the community’s fundraising efforts for this critical cause began on August 27, 2024, with an ice cream sundae bar. Throughout the following weeks, the community came together for a series of other successful fundraising events, including a t-shirt sale, a 50/50 raffle, a donut sale, a ‘Casual for a Cause’ day and a homemade soup sale. The grand finale of these efforts was the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which took place on October 4, 2024, and brought together residents, staff and supporters from across the region.

“Alzheimer’s is an issue close to the hearts of many in our community,” said Mary Main, Sales and Marketing Director at Freedom Village. “Our residents and staff are deeply committed to raising awareness and supporting the cause. Hosting this walk for the third year has been a privilege, and we look forward to continuing this tradition for many years to come.”

The funds raised during this year’s walk will directly benefit the Alzheimer’s Association, contributing to essential care and support services for individuals living with Alzheimer’s, as well as funding critical research to advance treatments and, ultimately, find a cure.
