United Way of Southern Chester County to announce winners of AI Skill-A-Thon

United Way of Southern Chester County announced the conclusion of the 2024 AI Skill-a-Thon, a free 30-day skilling competition that helped local professionals, job seekers, students and employers learn basic knowledge in AI to help them in their chosen career path.

Because of this AI Skill-A-Thon event funded by a grant from Microsoft, 133 participants throughout Southern Chester County registered and 28 earned professional certificates to demonstrate their AI knowledge and will be awarded a total of $22,550 in cash prizes which will be announced at an award ceremony at The Creamery of Kennett Square on October 24, 2024. There were also five teams representing local non-profit agencies that competed for $10,000 of the prize money including Kennett High School, LCH, Kennett Library, RSVP, and YoungMoms.

“United Way of Southern Chester County promotes the health, education, and financial stability of every person within the nineteen townships and four boroughs of Southern Chester County,” says Terry Vodery, CEO.  “Through this partnership with Microsoft, we wanted to give our community the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a digital age.  This initiative was more than about training – it was about creating opportunities, closing the digital divide, and ensuring that every resident has the tools to succeed in an increasingly AI driven world.”

The winners for each age category will be announced at the award celebration on October 24.

  • Ages 16-24
  • Ages 25-49
  • Ages 50+
