11 Area HS students earn Associate Degrees prior to receiving high school diplomas

In an era of escalating four-year college costs, 11 local high school students have a lot to celebrate this spring. They have earned Associate in Arts, Liberal Arts degrees from Delaware County Community College prior to completing their high school graduation requirements.

Nine students from Coatesville Area School District and two students from Downingtown Area School District took advantage of Delaware County Community College’s High School Dual Enrollment Program, which provides eligible high school students the opportunity to earn college credits while they are still in high school at a fraction of the standard tuition rates.

Through morning classes at DCCC’s Downingtown Center and full participation in high school life, the students were able to get a jump start on their college educations by accelerating their studies at DCCC. The College has several different types of dual enrollment programs, including a Teacher Education Program (TEP) open to high school students who are ready to jumpstart their coursework toward a professional career in the PreK- 4  education field, and a PACE+ Program which provides Residential Carpentry and Electrical pre-apprenticeship programs that can lead to Apprenticeships, Certificate programs or employment.
