Record 1,141 pets found homes for the Holidays at Brandywine Valley SPCA’s Mega Adoption Event

This kitten was among the many pets who found their forever homes at Brandywine Valley SPCA’s Mega Adoption Event.

The Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) announced today that the weekend’s Mega Adoption Event resulted in 1,141 adoptions, breaking the record for their in-shelter Mega Adoption Events. The event, held at all Brandywine Valley SPCA locations and 9 other area shelter partners across 4 states, brought in families from across the region who adopted a total of 579 dogs, 560 cats, and 2 other animals.

This is BVSPCA’s fifteenth Mega Adoption Event in partnership with national non-profit Petco Love, BOBS from Skechers®, and co-sponsored by Discover. These events have found homes for nearly 16,000 animals over 8 years. Adopted animals ranged from puppies and kittens to seniors and long-time shelter residents across all BVSPCA campuses and partner shelters.

“What an amazing two days for pets in need. So many families came out to give these great companions a second chance and not just at our campuses, but to all the partners who joined our cause,” said Adam Lamb, BVSPCA Chief Executive Officer. “Updates from families are flooding in, sharing their new cat or dog’s first hours at home, and their stories of how this has changed their lives too.”

The BVSPCA hosted the Mega Adoption Event at BVSPCA locations in West Chester, Plymouth Meeting, New Castle, Dover, Georgetown, and at the Animal Rescue Center. In addition, several other shelter partners participated in this weekend’s event, including ACCT Philly, Animal Adoption Center (AAC), Animal Care Shelter for Kent County in Maryland, Animal Rescue League of Berks County, BARCS in Maryland, Faithful Friends Animal Society, Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center, Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter, and Montgomery County Animal Shelter (TX), who brought animals north to participate.

“We’re grateful to be able to help other shelters tap into the adoption potential in this region, particularly shelters in areas where there are more homeless pets than adopters,” Lamb said.
