Letter: Chester County shows strong support for Coatesville

To The Editor,

Letters1I experienced firsthand the pride of the Coatesville community when walking in their Christmas Parade a few weeks ago.

More important than my personal participation, though, has been the continued support by Chester County of Coatesville organizations.  Specifically, through our Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) allocation this year, the Chester County Commissioners have awarded as follows:

  • $100,000 to the Community, Youth and Women’s Alliance for much-needed building renovations;
  • $700,000 to the Coatesville Area Senior Center to acquire and renovate a building for the Center’s new home;
  • $175,000 for Franklin Street infrastructure improvements to South Coatesville Borough.

These grant awards reflect the continued emphasis on providing much needed funds to communities that require financial assistance in order to properly care for the most vulnerable members in the community.

Tonight, January 8th, the City of Coatesville Planning Commission will conduct one of their ongoing series of public meetings to update their Comprehensive Plan, in part funded by the County.  I will attend, and I certainly encourage interested community members to attend.

I applaud those organizations who continue to demonstrate Coatesville Pride is alive and well.  Whether with my colleagues on the Board of Commissioners in my official capacity, or as an individual participating in any number of activities in the Coatesville area, I want those in Coatesville to know there is a County shared desire to continue revitalization efforts.  The update to Coatesville’s Comprehensive Plan in yet another step in the ongoing process.
