Avondale, So. Chester Regional Police sign extension for police services

On February 10th, 2022, the Public Safety Commissioners for the Southern Chester County Regional Police Department approved a three-year extension for police services in the Borough of Avondale retroactive to January 1st, 2022, through December 31st, 2024.

After a brief and positive negotiation with the newly elected Mayor and Council from Avondale, the Avondale Borough Council unanimously approved the contract for police services on February 1st, 2022.

Although Avondale is not a partnered member of the Regional Police Department, the contract is designed to deliver public safety services to all connected communities, making law enforcement and public safety functions nearly seamless.

Chief Gerald R. Simpson is pleased to continue services with Avondale Borough.  “We are neighbors; their issues are our issues.  We live in a time where the consolidation of public safety services makes complete sense for our residents on every level.  We are looking forward to continuing to strengthen our relationship with the residents of Avondale Borough.”

Paul Morgan, President of Avondale Borough Council: “We are looking forward to our continued relationship with the Southern Chester County Regional Police.  The sense of security that comes with having these fine men and women in blue patrolling our community is a comfort and a privilege.”

Susan Rzucidlo, Mayor of Avondale Borough: “Avondale Borough is pleased to be included in the Southern Chester County Regional Police Department service area.  We cannot overstate the importance of community policing from officers who know the area and our residents.  We are looking forward to partnering with the Department and our community neighbors.”

Chairman Steve Allaband: “New Garden Township is extremely supportive of community policing on a regional level, as it provides a clear benefit to everyone involved.  We want to work with our neighbors, as our community doesn’t stop at Township lines.”
