Letter: Democrats must condemn violence during protests

To The Editor,

In his speech at the Democratic National Convention, Joe Biden said “my father taught us that silence was complicity,” apparently not realizing that this statement applies to those in his party today.  Barely a word of condemnation or even of recognition has been uttered over the last several months by Democrats in Congress or by those at the DNC as cities throughout our country have been razed by the Black Lives Matter (BLM) riots.  Although PA District 6 Representative Chrissy Houlahan ran as a moderate Democrat in 2018, she too has remained inexcusably silent.  This is unfortunately consistent with her record of voting 100% of the time with Nancy Pelosi during her one term in the House.

The riots, which initially began as peaceful demonstrations to justifiably protest the horrendous death of George Floyd, quickly evolved into the massive destruction of cities across America that continues to this day. If BLM rioters truly cared about black lives, they wouldn’t deliberately and remorselessly burn and demolish properties and businesses in the predominantly-black communities in which they reside.

Although many involved in BLM are sincere in their concerns for the betterment and protection of black lives, there are others with far more nefarious purposes in mind.  The BLM movement was created by three black Marxist females in 2013, one of whom (Patrisse Cullors) said in a 2015 video interview: “Myself and Alicia, in particular, are trained organizers. We are trained Marxists. We are super versed on ideological theories, and I think what we really try to do is build a movement that can be utilized by many, many black folk.”  Marxists, aided by Antifa thugs, anarchists, and other miscreants, are turning the “peaceful” protests into destructive mobs to achieve their goal of dismantling and reinventing America to conform to their own radical agendas.  If this lawlessness is allowed to continue, our country could be decimated and transformed into one which would have our Founders turning over in their graves.

Rep. Houlahan and all members of Congress must immediately and vociferously condemn the chaos created by the BLM riots.  They should also encourage and support state and federal governments to act appropriately within their constitutional powers to suppress insurrections and put a halt to this mayhem.  Those who continue to remain silent are complicit in the irreparable damage to human lives and property that is being perpetrated by malevolent and escalating destructive forces throughout our country.  Such individuals are not fulfilling their responsibilities either to their constituents or to the American people and should be voted out of office.  A quote by Albert Einstein describes them perfectly: “The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil but by those who watch them without doing anything.”
