While not normally a big facial hair fan, raising male cancer awareness is worthwhile

Moustaches are everywhere! From home décor to women’s fashion, moustaches are riding the wave of popularity and the month of November is especially significant because of www.movember.com!
I have to admit that generally, I am not a huge fan of a moustache (or any facial hair, for that matter) BUT for the Movember charity, I am a wholehearted supporter!
What started ten years ago in Melbourne, Australia as a means of raising awareness for prostate and testicular cancer has grown into a movement spanning 21 countries and including over 3 million participants.
Now, to be clear, this is a MOUSTACHE-growing only club. No beards. No goatees. The founders believe that a moustache generates the most buzz and gets the conversation started most efficiently. Educating men about living beyond cancer and staying mentally healthy are two critical goals of this mission.
You can participate individually, start a team or join an existing team. Women are encouraged to join in the fundraising effort, too! (no, we are not supposed to grow a moustache….which, beyond age 35 becomes a real issue…but, that’s a topic for another article, I suppose.)
The website lists a ton of great events (golf tournaments, bar crawls, poker games) designed to raise money and to have an “everlasting impact on the face of men’s health”.
I say, embrace the goofiness of a moustache! Buy some wax, twirl the ends, wear a bowler hat and rescue women off some train tracks…all the while helping a very worthy cause!
Get out there and grow some facial hair, fellas! Happy Movember Weekend!
