A routine traffic stop turned potentially deadly in West Goshen Township when a man decided to speed off, and police said they are seeking the public’s help to identify him.

Police said a short-lived pursuit on Monday, Oct. 14,  at 10:52 p.m. was called off for safety reasons because the motorcyclist began weaving in and out of cars while fleeing on East Market Street, Westtown Road, East Nield and South Bolmar Streets, police said. Officers abandoned the chase on northbound Rt. 202, where the cyclist exceeded 100 mph, police said. Police hope someone will recognize the man, who was wearing a distinctive Patron tequila sweatshirt and riding a bright orange motorcycle.

Prior to the pursuit, the motorcyclist had stopped at the Wawa store located at 706 E. Gay St. in West Chester, police said. He entered the store wearing a black motorcycle helmet but removed it while making a purchase of two Red Bull energy drinks; the subject left the store after placing the drinks into a black backpack that he was wearing, police said.

The subject was later captured on video surveillance attempting to elude police; however,  his identity was disguised by the helmet, police said. Police do not believe that the man was aware that his appearance might have been captured prior to the incident.
