The destructive emerald ash borer has moved into Pennsylvania and has been sighted as near as Montgomery County.

The Brandywine Conservancy and Environmental Management Center invites residents to learn about the latest forest scourge: the emerald ash borer.

This invasive and highly destructive insect has begun to appear in more and more areas of Pennsylvania. The nearest reported sighting is in Montgomery County, and many in our region are concerned about its continued spread, a conservancy news release said.

On Wednesday, Oct. 16, Dr. Houping Liu, a forest entomologist with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry will discuss the insect’s biology, signs and symptoms of infestation, potential impacts, and recommendations and guidelines for landowners in developing an emerald ash borer management plan.

The program will include light refreshments at 6:30 p.m., the presentation and lecture at 7 p.m., and a question-and-answer session at 8 p.m. To register, call 610-388-8386, or email loldsschmidt@brandywine.org.

The presentation will be held in the Brandywine River Museum Lecture Room; use the riverside entrance. The museum is located on U.S. 1 in Chadds Ford.
