State police: Drunk driver killed motorcyclist

Coatesville man, 22, accused of causing fatal crash on Rt. 322

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAA 22-year-old Coatesville man is behind bars, accused of driving drunk on Rt. 322 on Friday night and killing a motorcyclist in a head-on collision, said state police from the Embreeville barracks.

Police said Antonio Ortiz was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane in a 1999 Ford Mustang, “passing multiple vehicles and driving erratically” prior to the crash. Ortiz struck the 2001 Harley Davidson operated by Ian Mann, 35, of Downingtown, who died of his injuries, police said.

The crash, which temporarily closed Rt. 322, occurred east of Romig Road in West Bradford Township, police said. Ortiz also hit a 2008 BMW, injuring Ryan Scaffidi, 28, of Turnersville, N.J., and causing injury to his own passenger, Tomas Sarafin-Alvride, 35, police said.

According to court records, Ortiz has a lengthy history of traffic infractions, some within the past week. He has pleaded guilty to speeding twice, once in Uwchlan Township in March 2011 and once in Tredyffrin Township in August 2010, and Downingtown Police cited hin on Sept. 28, records said.

Court records also show a guilty plea for public drunkenness in September 2011. In addition, Ortiz  pleaded guilty to driving without a license in February 2012, to driving with a suspended license in September 2011, and to driving without a license in August 2010. On Monday, Downingtown Police cited Ortiz again for driving without a license.
