Car chase ends in crash, arrest

COATESVILLE – City police found themselves in an early morning car chase, Thursday, after reportedly seeing a car reported stolen in neighboring Valley — a chase that ran almost completely across the city and into neighboring Caln township before ending in a two-car crash.

Police said that a city man, Eric Maucher, 28, was seen driving a 2011 Lexus RX 350 that had been reported stolen in Valley at 3rd Avenue and East Lincoln Highway just before 7 a.m. Police attempted a traffic stop, but police said Maucher fled the scene. The chase continued onto US-30 and into Caln, where Maucher reportedly crashed into another car at S. Bally Road. Police said Maucher exited the car and fled south on foot, across the nearby railroad tracks, where he was apprehended.

Maucher is charged with Receiving Stolen Property, Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Flight to Avoid Apprehension, DUI, Fleeing & Eluding & other related traffic violations. The Valley Police Department is handling the theft of the Lexus, since it occurred in their jurisdiction. The Caln Police are handling the accident that occurred during the pursuit.

Maucher was taken to  a local hospital for evaluation of possible injuries from the crash, then remanded to Chester County Prison after bail was set at $125,000.
