The test involves a visual examination of the tissues of mouth using three different wavelengths of light. This test is painless and takes just a few minutes.
According to the American Cancer Society in addition to the risk factors associated with smoking, drinking and chewing tobacco there is a greater increase in oral cancer diagnosis in individuals under the age of 40. This increase is related to the exposure of the HPV Human papilloma virus in both men and women. The Centers for Disease Control recommends that all patients over the age of 17 be screened for oral cancer.
