EAST MARLBOROUGH – An abbreviated School Board work session took place Monday night due to the impending snow storm, much of which focused on buildings and maintenance.
Board member and Facilities Committee Chair Greg Lindner called Rick Hostetler, Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds forward to talk about purchases that the district is making on behalf of facilities. A mower will be purchased from Lawn and Golf Supply in the amount of $24,645.75. This mower will be used primarily for the slopes at Pocopson Elementary School.
As part of the long range safety and security plan, replacement door hardware will be installed at Hillendale Elementary by A.G. Mauro Company in the amount of $39,540. Carpet will be replaced at Hillendale Elementary by Interface in the amount of $31,339.01. This amount is for materials only. Labor costs will come at next month’s meeting. Carpet will also be replaced at Unionville Elementary and Pocopson Elementary Schools by Shaw Industries in the amount of $14,634.30. Exterior LED Light Fixtures will be replaced at Hillendale Elementary and Patton Middle School by Denney Electric and Colonial Electric in the amount of $17,689.72.
There are proposals from The Breneman Company to repair and resurface the Unionville High School tennis courts in the amount of $31,000, from Weatherproof Technologies to repair and resurface areas of roofing at Patton Middle School, Unionville High School and Chadds Ford Elementary in the amount of $318,983.13. Hertz Furniture submitted a proposal for replacement of the remaining lockers at Patton Middle School in the amount of $89,568.
Bids were reviewed to replace two 77 passenger busses and a 48 passenger mini-bus. It was recommended that the bid be awarded to Wolfington Body Company, Inc. in the amount of $230,350.
At the April meeting three passenger vans will be up for approval with a July 1, 2017 delivery. These vans were budgeted as part of the 2017/2017 fiscal year. Also to be discussed at the April work session is the new position of Director of Student Activities, Supervisor of Athletics.
School Board Director Jeff Hellrung brought up the issue of the UCFSD Draft Resolution Opposing Elimination of School Property Taxes. Discussion took place regarding mirroring the Tredyffrin/ Easttown School District resolution and adding language regarding refinancing debt and funding timely maintenance.
On March 15, 2017 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM, there will be a U-PRISE meeting in the District Office. Guest Speaker Sharon Shoemaker, Transition Consultant, CCIU, Bethany Clemson, Learning Support Teacher and Transition Coordinator, UHS and Lisa Tzanakis, Supervisor of Special Education, CCIU will be doing a presentation on Post –Secondary Transition and Executive Function.
Superintendent Dr. John Sanville indicated that Curriculum and Educational Technology Committee meetings would be available on line and also would be live streamed.
