WEST GROVE — Family Promise of Southern Chester County, a nonprofit dedicated to helping families experiencing homelessness, is relocating to 1156 West Baltimore Pike in Kennett Square (610-444-0400) at the end of January. Wm. P. McGovern, Inc., a family-owned and operated waste disposal company serving Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and Maryland, is supporting Family Promise with a new home for its Resource Center.

The Resource Center, currently located in West Grove, occupies space donated by Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish. “I am humbled by the outpouring of support from individuals, local businesses, and congregations,” said Susan Minarchi, executive director of Family Promise of Southern Chester County. “ABVM welcomed Family Promise to the community with open arms, donating the space we desperately needed to launch our nonprofit. The comprehensive nature of our services has increased tremendously and we’ve outgrown our current space. McGovern came to our rescue, opening their heart to our cause.”

Since opening in November 2015, Family Promise has helped 20 families experiencing homelessness, representing 25 adults and 44 children, regain their housing and their independence. A network of 27 congregations and approximately 600 volunteers provide shelter, food, and companionship to the families. Families enrolled in the program receive intensive case management to find employment and permanent housing, as well as on going counseling, budget support, and mentoring. Family Promise provides furniture, housewares, and even cars through generous donations from the community.

“Family is at the core of who we are and what we stand for,” commented Bill McGovern. “Partnering with Family Promise makes perfect sense because we share a common desire to help families in need.”
