Relay For Life embraces Mardi Gras theme, June 3 & 4

EAST MARLBOROUGH MardiGras– The Kennett/Unionville Relay for Life is back June 3 and 4 featuring a Mardi Gras theme. Bring your whole family out to join hundreds of your neighbors for a fun filled 14 hours at the Unionville High School Track to raise over $67,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Opening ceremonies start at 6 PM Friday evening and are followed at 7 PM by the recognition ceremony for cancer survivors. The Luminaria lap takes place 9 PM when the lives of those who have lost their fight with cancer are remembered and celebrated. The closing ceremony is scheduled for 7:45 AM Saturday, followed by the Community Breakfast hosted by the Kennett and Unionville school district administrators in the Unionville High School cafeteria.

Continuous activities are planned on the track and field. The Philadelphia Union soccer team is back between 5 and 7 PM, with a Philadelphia Union inflatable soccer field and 5 on 5 soccer, shot accuracy contests, Union Plinko where players can win fun Union prizes, and Union merchandise and tickets for sale. Kennett Area YMCA instructors will offer classes in hula hoops, Zumba, yoga and more throughout the evening. Older kids can enjoy football, soccer and Frisbee at any time. The younger kids have a special activities tent for face painting, decorating cookies, and other crafts. Glow in the dark temporary tattoos and Mardi Gras mask-making are available to all.

We even have a silent auction featuring dozens of items for those who want to shop. Items in the auction include Phillies Tickets, Mardi Gras masks, a Longaberger Basket, a Margarita Basket, Car Detailing, Hooters Wing Party, a Wild Bird Basket and a Wine Basket.

For those who plan to spend the whole night at the Relay event, there will be plenty of camping areas where you can pitch a tent so you can grab some sleep. Quieter activities start at 11 PM when the movies start. Walking the track continues all night, with the goal of at least one team member per team on the track at all times, symbolizing that cancer never sleeps

Over 200 people are already registered for Mardi Gras in over 20 teams. Let us know you are coming by going to http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?pg=entry&fr_id=74711 to sign up. If you cannot make the Relay please consider donating (look for the “donate” option at the link above). The funds raised are invested in services for Chester County families fighting cancer and in ground breaking research in Pennsylvania and nationwide.
