Annual Brandywine Center party focuses on healthful fun

Five Coatesville-area advocates recognized as ‘unsung heroes’

Some of the youthful attendees at the Fifth Annual Brandywine Center Healthy Families Block Party were able to sink their teeth into the activities.

From face-painting of children to drawing attention to community advocates, the Fifth Annual Brandywine Center Healthy Families Block Party offered a host of activities this past Saturday.

More than 500 Coatesville-area residents joined about 50 health educators and social-service representatives at the event, which was held  at the Brandywine Center  on East Lincoln Highway.

To live up to its healthy billing, the party featured medical and dental screenings and healthful cooking tips. Raffles, music, dancing and children’s entertainment  helped to maintain a festive atmosphere.

To culminate  the celebration, five area residents were singled out as “Unsung Hero” award recipients. They included Tammy Cansler of Cansler Investment Grouop, who helped initiate the Second Avenue Senior Housing and Brandywine Center projects; and Rich Saylor, president of the Coatesville Senior Center board and former principal of CAT Brandywine.

Also recognized were Theresa Sargent, executive director of the Coatesville Senior Center; Marianna Cutler, director of the Brandywine Hospital Senior Circle and Volunteers; and Alex Sharber, who heads the Freedom Village Outreach Committee and coordinates the McNeil Children’s Library at the Brandywine Center.
