COATESVILLE — Police were able track and recover after a three-day, county-wide search, a two-year-old child allegedly kidnapped by his mother’s boyfriend.

Larry Sample was spotted by Tredyffrin Police in his car, headed northbound of US-202 near US-422 when he was pulled over, Wednesday. Police said the child was in the front seat of the car, not secured in a child safety seat. Sample was arrested and the child — and a puppy also taken at the time — were returned home that day.

City police said that a woman — not identified by police to protect the identity of the child — reported that her two-year-old son had been taken from her father’s residence just after 4:30 a.m. on April 17. She told police that  Sample forced his way into her father’s home and took the child and puppy. She said that Sample is not the father of the child and has no parental rights, police said. She was able to take a picture of Sample carrying the child and a vehicle description, which was distributed to police around the area.

Sample was arraigned and sent to Chester County Prison on $100,000 cash bail.

On Wednesday, Sample’s preliminary hearing occurred at District Court 15-1-03 in front of Judge Gregory Hines. At the conclusion of the hearing, all charges were held, to include Kidnapping, False Imprisonment, Endangering Welfare of Children, Interference with Custody of Children, Burglary, & Theft by Unlawful Taking (for stealing the puppy).

He was returned to Chester County Prison after the hearing, still being held on $100,000 cash bail.
