CASD administrators, board meet with public to talk taxes

2016 Tax Talk Release (002)

About 30 area residents met with Coatesville Are School District Board of Education members and administrators Sunday to talk about the budget and taxes.

In a first of its kind meeting, the Coatesville Area School Board and Administrators were joined by approximately 30 community members on Sunday afternoon, March 13, to discuss the financial status of the District. The district invited residents, teachers and staff to the forum.

At the meeting, Director of Business Management Ron Kabonick outlined the current fiscal status of the District and the steps the District has taken, and continues to take, to build a robust financial future.

Following the presentation, each board member led a small group discussion with community members and administrators. Among the issues discussed were tax increases, building repairs, facilities maintenance and charter school tuitions. The interactive forum gave Board members, administrators and community members the opportunity to discuss ideas and solutions that could be considered in the financial planning of the District.

“This Board is committed to maximizing the education of our students and simultaneously minimizing the tax burden on our residents,” said Board Finance Chairman Stuart Deets.“ We must continue to explore every avenue for containing costs so that our residents can continue to enjoy the homes and businesses that they have spent a lifetime building.” He commended the residents who came to the forum and thanked them for their time and input.

“This tax forum is another way we are working to solicit community input on the financial planning of the District,” said Superintendent Dr. Cathy Taschner. To date, six town hall budget meetings have been held in each region of the District. The next town hall budget meeting will be held March 16th at East Fallowfield Elementary School at 7 p.m.
