Great Valley student wins Chesco spelling bee

DOWNINGTOWN –”D-y-s-p-e-p-t-i-c.”

With those nine letters in that precise order, Aakash Narayan nabbed the championship title at the 2016 Chester County Spelling Bee. During the event, 55 students from 55 schools spelled 208 words.

As the last student standing on stage, the Great Valley Middle School student has earned a trip for two to Washington, D.C. to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May.

Krishna Doraisamy from Sugartown Elementary Schoo took second placel; third place winners were Rohan Rojy from Collegium Charter school, Esha Singh from Marsh Creek Sixth Grade Center and Jack Verhagen from Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School. A total of 55 students competed in the Chester County Spelling Bee.

The champion also received: the Samuel Louis Sugarman award certificate for a 2015 United States Mint Proof Set; Webster’s Third New International Dictionary; and a one year subscription to Encyclopedia Britannica Online. The second place winner received a Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, 11th Edition, and both the second and third place winners will received a Scrabble Deluxe Game and a $25 Amazon.com gift card.

The 2016 Chester County Spelling Bee will be available for viewing via CCiTV at ccitv.cciu.org in early March.
