Two Chester County schools earn ‘Blue Ribbon’ designation

BlueRibbonSchoolsWEST CHESTER — The U.S. Department of Education announced Tuesday that two Chester County schools are the recipients of the National Blue Ribbon School award.

West Chester’s St. Agnes Catholic School and Paoli’s St. Norbert Elementary School are recognized as 2015 award winners in Pennsylvania’s Sixth Congressional District. In 2015, 17 schools in Pennsylvania joined 285 public and 50 private schools across the nation in receiving this coveted award.

According to the U.S. Department of Education’s website, the National Blue Ribbon School award recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence. Specifically, the U.S. Department of Education recognizes a school’s progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups and demonstrating that all students can succeed.

Congressman Ryan Costello, who represents a portion of Chester County, applauded St. Agnes Catholic School and St. Norbert Elementary School on their achievement.

“I applaud the efforts of the school officials, educators, mentors, parents, and students for their collaborative effort to propel these schools to the top. Our communities benefit from their success and we are grateful for their hard work,” said Costello, in a statement. “As the son and brother of educators, I understand the impact positive impact high quality schools can have on both students and our communities.

“I commend St. Agnes, St. Norbert, and all schools in PA-06 for their tireless efforts to provide all students with a safe, welcoming, and productive educational environment.”

The schools will be formally recognized with a plaque and flag at a ceremony in Washington, D.C on November 9th and 10th
