KMC Gymnastics competes in nationals

kmcgymnastics2Local KMC USAIGC (United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs) girls’ team participated in the 2015 USAIGC/IAIGC WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in Palm Springs, California. The National Championship was held at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa Palm Springs. KMC Head Coach Iryna Aliyevska and 16 gymnasts travelled to Palm Springs to compete in the week long final competition of the gymnastics season.

The national competition includes three competitive formats: All Around, Individual Event, (gymnasts qualify to Event Finals on their first day of preliminary competition) and Team Championship per competitive level.

The following KMC gymnasts placed 1st for their age and competitive level on an individual event: Lily Steffensen (10yr) 1st Bars, Caitlin Klein (12yr) 1st Beam, Cara Steffensen (9yr) 1st Beam, Ashley Torrey (12yr) 1st Bars and Vault, and Leah Lipsman (14yr) 1st Floor.

Individual all-around scores follow. The score is out of a possible 40.0. The score is followed by national rank:

Copper: Peyton Torrey 35.95 (8th), Lily Steffensen 35.25 (10th), Hannah Wilcox 35.975 (4th), and Caitlin Klein 36.125 (3rd). The KMC Copper team placed 5th out of 16 teams.

Copper 2: Peyton Burrell 35.575 (10th), and Cara Steffensen 37.30 (2nd).

Bronze: Jenna Lamberth 34.475 (5th), Lauren Fenstermacher 33.85 (11th), Carly Rutledge 33.65 (15th), Courtney Mettee 34.05 (9th), and Eva Tryon 33.20 (14th). The KMC Bronze team placed 4th out of 18 teams.

Bronze Diamond: Meghan Dunlap 35.00 (9th), Katie Dettore 35.60 (7th), and Ashley Torrey 36.925 (1st). The KMC Bronze Diamond team placed 3rd out of 14 teams.

Silver: Leah Lipsman 35.85 (4th) and Anna Lipsman 34.225 (13th).

Copper 2 gymnast Cara Steffensen received the highest all around score for KMC achieving a 37.20 giving her a 2nd place finish.

Bronze Diamond gymnast Ashley Torrey achieved a national champion title for her performance in Palm Springs. She qualified for event finals on all four events. Torrey also placed 1st on both bars and vault. Torrey is a West Chester resident who is going into 7th grade at Patton Middle School. This is her third year competing for KMC. She hopes to compete at the collegiate level some day.
