Brandywine Red Clay Alliance received a $4,500 grant from PA American Water

COATESVILLE, Pa. (July 7, 2015) – Pennsylvania American Water said today it awarded one of its 2015 Environmental Grants to the Brandywine Red Clay Alliance, which is among seven watershed initiatives across the state that earned financial support through the company’s Environmental Grant Program.

Formerly the Brandywine Valley Association, the Brandywine Red Clay Alliance received a $4,500 grant to create and host a summer environmental educational program for children from Coatesville. The camp at the organization’s Saalbach Farm gives the inner-city kids a hands-on experience enjoying and learning about the watershed and stewardship practices to sustain the quality of local water resources.

“Thanks to this generous support , we were able to open the door to our natural world through fun hands-on learning for these children, who would not otherwise have this opportunity,” said James E. Jordan Jr., executive director of the Brandywine Red Clay Alliance.

In addition to the Brandywine Red Clay Alliance, Pennsylvania American Water awarded its 2015 Environmental Grants to: Habitat for Humanity (Washington County), Keystone College (Lackawanna County), Montgomery County Conservation District (Montgomery County), Economic Development South (Allegheny County), Columbia County Conservation District (Columbia County), and Dunmore Historical Society (Lackawanna County). A panel of judges selected the grant recipients from nearly 40 applications, which were evaluated on such criteria as environmental need, innovation, community engagement and sustainability. The recipients will receive a share of grant funds totaling nearly $35,000 for their community-based projects that improve, restore or protect watersheds.

Pennsylvania American Water is a subsidiary of American Water, which initiated the Environmental Grant Program in 2005 in Pennsylvania to support projects that protect or restore drinking water sources and surrounding watersheds.
